Lean on your caddy

By August 7, 2017 No Comments

I shared a caddy a couple weeks ago at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island with a guy that was a little apprehensive about using a caddy. He had never used a caddy before and was well aware we were about to play one of the toughest courses in the world. Additionally, he was at least a 20 handicapper.

I explained to him that caddies have seen it all. Nine out of 10 players they caddy for are absolutely terrible golfers they could probably beat with one eye closed. Their job is to make your day more enjoyable and if you just let them lead, you will see great results.

It turned out that our caddy, Andrew, was a fantastic guy and a good player. He helped me with shot direction and club selection on a number of holes, and his putting reads were fantastic. It certainly saved me a few shots.

My playing partner was absolutely thrilled with the help he received and had the time of his life As a bonus, Andrew took a lot of great pictures with our camera phones and told us a great story about Phil Michelson hitting wedges into a pool on the roof of a house near the 11th tee during a practice round for the PGA Championship a couple years ago.

Professional caddies at the top golf courses are experienced leaders. Let them do their job while you do yours, having fun.
