Fourteen hundred bunkers on a single eighteen hole course. Rugged Wisconsin weather on the shores of Lake Michigan. Decades of experience from trial and error by the world’s most notorious golf course architect. The result is the Straits Course at Whistling Straits. The American Club resort is five star and every bit the equal of the golf. For good measure there is a sister course (The Irish Course) just behind the dunes of the more famous Straits Course. And if that’s not enough, two more world class courses from Pete’s earlier career down the road a bit (Blackwolf Run) that have hosted top tournaments such as the U.S. Women’s Open. One of my caddies at Whistling Straits (a funny Irish lad) lived in my attic for three months, they mow the rough with sheep, and I played through a sleet storm in June a few years ago! Simply a one of a kind golf destination courtesy of the brilliant minds of Pete Dye and Herb Kohler.
